Reality TV: Fashion's New Runway and its Impact on Sustainability

Reality TV these days has transformed into fashion's new runway, offering a platform for emerging designers and captivating audiences worldwide. But the influence of reality TV on the fashion industry brings challenges to fashion and sustainability. Let’s talk about it.

Shows like Next in Fashion hosted by Tan France and Gigi Hadid have propelled talented designers into the spotlight, but the fast-paced nature and emphasis on creating innovative designs within tight deadlines can overlook the importance of responsible production practices. Sustainability took a spotlight in 1/20 total episodes.

If you watch Selling Sunset, then you're no stranger to the fact that fashion reaches new levels each season. However, their focus on luxury can perpetuate a culture of consumption for new, trendy items instead of advocating for mindful consumption and reducing waste.

What do you think reality TV should change to promote sustainability?
