Athleisure brands making a difference

Athleisure and athleticwear are difficult segments of the fashion industry when it comes to sustainability- this is because the needs of consumers for sports attire are often very different, requiring material characteristics most easily found in synthetic fabrics. BUT this doesn’t mean that there aren’t any good brands that you can support. Here are some athleisure brands that make a difference!

Silou makes small batch productions from BSCI approved fabric mills that operate using renewable energy. Their textiles are Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and from renewable materials like TENCEL and ECONYL.

Pansy is a small, woman-owned organic cotton undergarment company. Their organic cotton is grown and milled in the US and underwear designed and sewn locally. Their athletic wear is made of 90% cotton and 10% recycled PET.

A Certified B Corporation, The Good Tee use only Certified Fairtrade Organic Cotton which uses 71% less water and 62% less energy compared to conventional cotton.

Girlfriend Collective’s products are majority made from recycled plastic bottles (RPET) with all of the factories verified by third parties with certifications like SA8000 and WRAP.
